How will you start implementing ISO 22000?
You can follow this 9-step path in the certification process,
1. Ensure standard
Obtain the ISO 22000 standard and review its clauses. Then review whether implementing this standard is necessary for your company and what benefits it will bring you. Then scan the basic concepts
2. Create a project team and define your strategy
The creation of a management system is a strategic decision for the whole organization. The involvement of top management is vital for success. The more top management is involved in the development of the system, the more successful it will be.
3. Identify training needs
Since the project team will be the implementers of this management system, determine which trainings are needed to deal with the issues that will arise during the implementation of the system and get these trainings.
4. Consider the option of working with a consultant
Explore the idea of working with an independent consultant, as consultants can provide you with viable, realistic, low-cost options.
5. Create your management system manuals
The management system manual will describe your policies, procedures and practices. In this handbook you will also describe your organizational structure and how you ensure customer satisfaction
6. Create your procedures
Your practices describe what you do in your organization. Your procedures should answer the following questions;
- Why?
- Who?
- When?
- Where is it?
- What?
- How?
7. Implement the management system.
Training and communication are the most important factors for success in implementation. During the implementation phase, your organization will work according to the procedures and documentation you have created, and this will demonstrate the effectiveness of the management system.
8. Consider pre-audit as an option
You may want to conduct a pre-audit of your food management system practices. You can have such a study done by a 3rd party independent and accredited organization such as Vericert. This study is to reveal any nonconformities and take the necessary precautions before entering the certification audit. You can eliminate these nonconformities that show that you do not comply with any part of the standard with the necessary corrective actions.
9. Selection of the certification body
When you start working with a certification body, it will actually be a cooperation and partnership that will last for years. The biggest indicator that you have an effective system will be the continual improvements you will make in your system. Vericert Certification creates value for the continual development and improvement of organizations through its audits. This contributes to the achievement of the strategic goals of senior management.
After a successful audit, your ISO 22000 certificate is issued. The operability of your system is maintained by surveillance audits conducted once or twice a year by Vericert auditors.
