Carbon Verification

The need to report and verify GHG inventories arises from a combination of organizational growth, legislation, procurement requirements and/or customer requirements.

Carbon Verification

Governments have committed to achieving net zero by 2050-2053 and many businesses have started to calculate, report and declare their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to do their part.

Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Verification helps ensure that an organization’s carbon footprint calculation is accurate, comprehensive and developed in accordance with ISO 14064-1.

The need to report and verify GHG inventories arises from a combination of organizational growth, legislation, tender requirements and/or customer requirements. This also supports companies in risk management, cost analysis and corporate reputation management.

Vericert provides 3rd party verification in accordance with ISO 14064-1 to ensure that your greenhouse gas inventory (carbon footprint) is reliable. This standard is a specification for the measurement of emissions and removals.

What organizations need to do;

Preparation

Organizations need to make some preparations before entering the verification study. They will need to understand the requirements of the GHG Inventory and the requirements of ISO 14064-1.

The first thing that organizations need to determine is the boundaries for verification. In determining the boundaries, the first consideration is whether there is operational, financial or equity control over emission-generating activities.

To the extent you determine your Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, you will need to gather and consider relevant data sources.

Scope 1 – direct emissions from owned or controlled sources

Scope 2 – indirect emissions from the generation of purchased electricity, steam, heating and cooling

Scope 3 – all other indirect emissions occurring in a company’s value chain (waste treatment, purchase of goods, employee travel, etc.).

Reporting

Reporting of GHG inventories should be complete, consistent, accurate and transparent. You will need to create a report detailing how you approached developing your GHG inventory as well as emissions data.

Verification

Vericert will perform an independent 3rd party verification to ensure that your GHG inventory is accurate, reliable and consistent.
