RED cyber security requirement

From 1st August 2025, all wireless devices placed on the EU market must comply with the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) cybersecurity requirements.

Which products/equipment should be compliant?

The following radio equipment categories fall under the scope of cybersecurity requirements

Equipment category

  • Equipment that uses radio technology for communication over the internet
  • IoT devices that can transmit data over the internet
  • Toys and childcare equipment that use radio/wireless technology
  • Wearable devices
  • Connected industrial devices

If information is required about the devices in this category, the following product types can be considered within the scope:

  • Wireless radio communication-enabled cell phones and tablets
  • Wireless cameras and connected cameras with WiFi/Bluetooth/radio connectivity
  • Smart home devices: smart plugs, smart lights, smart thermostats, home alarm systems with radio connectivity
  • Wearable devices: fitness trackers, smart watches, health monitoring wearables
  • Baby monitors and other wireless equipment related to childcare
  • Toys with radio/wireless connectivity (e.g., remote-controlled drones, wireless toy wearables)

  • Whether the radio equipment is defined by RED.
  • Assessment to ensure that the manufacturer’s technical documentation meets the basic cybersecurity requirements.
  • Delivery of products to test laboratories, performance of necessary tests, and delivery of reports to manufacturers.
  • Control of the interaction of products with other regulations (automotive, medical products, etc.).
