ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial Intelligence Management System
ISO/IEC 42001, yapay zeka sistemlerini tasarlayan, geliştiren ve uygulayan kuruluşlara şeffaflık, hesap verebilirlik, güvenlik ve gizlilik gibi faktörler hakkında rehberlik sağlamayı amaçlamaktadır.
ISO/IEC 42001 Artificial Intelligence Management System
Today, artificial intelligence applications have revolutionized many industries, including our daily lives. But the rapid growth of AI has also raised ethical, privacy and security concerns. To address these challenges, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has developed a new standard, ISO/IEC 42001. Published in December 2023, this standard aims to provide guidance to organizations designing, developing and implementing AI systems on factors such as transparency, accountability, security and privacy.
ISO/IEC 42001 Key Areas
ISO 42001 covers considerations to be carried out throughout the entire lifecycle, from the initial installation phase to the final operation of the system. It is designed to help organizations manage the risks associated with AI and ensure the responsible development and use of AI systems. The main sections of the standard are defined below:
- Leadership: Senior management should demonstrate full leadership and commitment to establishing policies related to the AI management system and aligning them with the organization’s strategic direction.
- Planning: Identify and assess risks and opportunities related to AI and develop plans for their handling.
- Support: Provide all necessary resources for the effective operation of AI.
- Operation: Ensure and maintain the development of processes and procedures for AI systems.
- Performance evaluation: The AI system should be monitored, measured, analyzed and evaluated.
- Continual improvement: The AI management system should be continuously improved through regular assessments, including corrective actions.
Organizational tasks and responsibilities
In order for the ISO/IEC 42001 standard to be implemented effectively, your organizational status and roles must be determined effectively. AI related roles are defined below;
- Artificial Intelligence Provider: An organization that provides a product or service that uses one or more artificial intelligence systems. AI providers include AI platform providers and AI product or service providers.
- AI Developer: An organization that designs, develops, tests or deploys one or more AI products or services. Examples of organizations that are AI developers include designers, implementers and model validators.
- AI Customer: Organizations that use AI products or services directly or in accordance with the provisions set by AI users.
Benefits of implementing ISO/IEC 42001
There are many benefits for the organization to establish and implement an AI management system. On the other hand, the requirements to be carried out by organizations do not impose great obligations. Especially when implemented in conjunction with Information security management system (ISO/IEC 27001) and Privacy information management systems (ISO/IEC 27701), the additional requirements of the organization are considerably reduced.
Competitive Advantage
Implementing ISO/IEC 42001 is very important for organizations to demonstrate their sensitivity to the use of artificial intelligence and gain trust. This will play a major role in differentiating you from your competitors.
Cost reduction and increased efficiency
When the organization integrates ISO/IEC 42001 into its processes related to artificial intelligence, it can detect and correct vulnerabilities in its processes earlier. This will reduce potential reputational and financial losses due to AI.
Certification
To be certified by Vericert, you must first implement an Artificial Intelligence Management system that complies with the requirements of the standard. Vericert is an accredited certification body and can assist you with certification services.
